This Is Me
A little more about me
I am really new to the blogging world. It has taken me a few weeks just to understand how to set up a page and to successfully publish a post. I didn't even know what the title of my blog was when my wife asked me so that she could follow me. With a little hunting I found that I had created this blog quite a while ago and named it, as you can see, "Next Time Adventures."
Now, when you have a child in this day an age, as I do, you want to make sure that their upbringing is positive, encouraging, and exciting. We made it a habit that whenever my daughter would ask for something or want to do something and it just wasn't going to be able to happen we would respond with "Maybe, next time", "Next time we'll do _____" or "Next time we can get _____."
I know what you are thinking: "That's just an empty response", "That's just another way to say no", or "It seems to me that maybe, it pretty much always means no." (Thank you Jack Johnson) This was not the case. Sure, there were times that I knew that we probably wouldn't be able to do that thing or get that thing again, but maybe we could have.
My daughter was not one to shy away from asking for things because she knew what the response would be. She would actually be excited to hear me say "Next time." Those two words opened up a world of possibilities. A lot of the time we would follow through, next time. Sometimes it would be because the opportunity arose, and other times she would call me out and let me know how I had told her that we would do that next time. To keep her trust, we would do that.
I am always reminded of a quote:

This is why I am having adventures, "next time."

“Listen earnestly to anything [your children] want to tell you, no matter what. If you don't listen eagerly to the little stuff when they are little, they won't tell you the big stuff when they are big, because to them all of it has always been big stuff.”
