Bettering My Life
Basic Tips For Life
I never considered myself very good at anything. I was always the "Jack of all trades, master of none." When I was single that wasn't a problem. I would go where I wanted, when I wanted, and with whomever I wanted. The problem was that I was pretty boring. I usually never went anywhere, because I didn't want to, and there was nobody that I wanted to go with. Then I got married.
My wife is amazing. She is the mother of my daughter and the love of my life. Because of her, I want to be the best that I can be. Now, I'm not saying that it is easy. It is something that I fail at probably 9 times out of 10. She has helped me to grow on a personal level to benefit my own life as well as our life together.
Here are some some of the things that I have had on my mind.
1. Talk to people
Seems pretty basic, right? How often do you actually talk to people? When you do, how does the conversation go? Are you intent on listening to the other person or are you thinking about what you want to say next and are waiting for them to finish?
Years ago I was challenged to not talk about myself in a conversation unless I was asked by the other person. Let me tell you, people love to talk about themselves. Most of the time all it takes is for you to be attentive to what they are saying, and ask them a lot of questions. "What are you up to? What are you working on? How are your kids? How is your wife? What did you enjoy on that trip you just took?"
For me, as an introvert, this was a great way to take the attention off of me and put it on the other person as well as strengthen my social skills.
